DME Assistant
Job description:
Specialty Orthopedic Group is currently seeking a Cast Tech/DME Assistant to assist in casting, splinting, wound care, and the application of DME for the treatment of orthopedic injuries. This position is Monday through Friday, full-time. Experience is preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitating patient flow and assisting physician and clinic staff with coordination of patient care, including greeting and walking patients back to exam rooms and updating patients medical information
Applying and removing casts, splints, dressings, sutures, and staples to patients as directed by provider
Keeping cast rooms fully stocked and ensuring that the rooms are cleaned after each patient
Verifying patients insurance coverage of DME supplies and obtain insurance authorization.
Educating patients and their caregivers regarding specific care related to casts, splints, dressings, sutures and staples
Measuring and applying DME products to patients as directed by provider, ensuring proper fit
Educating patients and their caregivers on DME product use, care and expected clinical outcome
Educating the patient on their insurance plan and possible financial responsibility
Following up with patients who may be having difficulty with their brace, DME equipment, cast or splint.
Training as a clinical assistant and perform those duties as needed.
Ordering clinical DME supplies in a cost-effective manner.
Assisting with pre-authorization/pre-certifications and referrals when applicable and ensuring all documentation guidelines are met as required by each insurance carrier
Maintaining appropriate levels of casting supplies and DME inventory
Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- One year experience in casting or DME fitting preferred
- Flexibility to work in other SOG clinics as needed
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 1-2 years related experience required; casting experience strongly preferred
- Experience as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) is strongly preferred due to the nature of patient interaction and orthopedic support
