Specialty Orthopedic Group (SOG) is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant. This position will work alongside physician in clinic and surgery. Experience in a surgical specialty preferred but not required, new grads are welcome to apply.

This position will require some work at our Oxford and Tupelo locations.

ABOUT SPECIALTY ORTHOPEDIC GROUP

Founded in 2015 in Tupelo, MS, Specialty Orthopedic Group (SOG) has grown from two doctors and three employees to a team of over 150 people at six locations. With ten surgeons and eleven advanced practice providers (APP), SOG is the largest group of sub-specialized orthopedic surgeons in north Mississippi and is home to the only privately-owned outpatient surgery center in north Mississippi.

Specialty Orthopedic Group specializes in orthopedic surgery of the hand, wrist, and elbow; foot and ankle conditions; shoulder, hip, and knee replacement; revision total joint surgery; sports medicine; cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine; and hip preservation and arthroscopy. All of Specialty Orthopedic Group's surgeons are fellowship-trained and operate exclusively in their area of sub-specialized training.

SOG’s state-of-the-art clinic, surgery center, and physical therapy facility in Tupelo, as well as clinic locations in Batesville, New Albany, Oxford, Senatobia, and Starkville, MS, offers a host of orthopedic treatment options for patients in north Mississippi, west Alabama, south Tennessee, and beyond.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works alongside assigned physician, splitting their time between the operating room and clinic.
  • Provides professional medical services to new and established patients under the supervision of the Physician to which they are assigned. This includes, but not limited to, taking a medical history, performing physical examination, ordering, and interpreting laboratory and x-ray examination, developing a treatment plan, providing patient education, and applying casts, braces, and splints.
  • Documents patient records in a timely, understandable, complete, and accurate manner.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date medical knowledge and technical ability when delivering patient care.
  • Manages patient workflow effectively and efficiently in a manner that enhances patient care while minimizing legal and medical risk.
  • Assists in surgery, conducts hospital rounds, writes orders, and formulates and implements a treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients.
  • Dictates history and physicals, discharge summaries, and other hospital notes.
  • Orders, prescribes, dispenses, and administers medications, orthosis, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices as needed within scope of practice.
  • Promptly completes and maintains medical and billing records.
  • Possesses ability to work independently and display teamwork qualities among peers and other department personnel.

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BLS / ACLS certification required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer and typing skills will be needed for operation of EMR and PACS
  • Experience in a surgical specialty preferred but not required
  • Graduate from Accredited Physician Assistant Program by NCCPA
  • Licensed and credentialed by the Mississippi Board of Physician Assistants
